Hey, "Lucifer" fans. We've got some great news for you guys. We can officially confirm that your favorite show will be back for a brand new season! According to TV Line, FOX actually gave it a very early renewal way back in February 2017 so they were very sure that they wanted this series back. This great news means that new spoiler teasers, sneak peek clips, promo pics, cast interviews and all that good stuff will definitely be on the way in the upcoming weeks and months.
A few positive words
TV Line was also able to find out how many episodes season 3 is getting. It turns out that FOX gave them a full 22 episode order which is a step up from its 18 episode order for season 2. During the renewal announcement, the FOX Broadcasting entertainment chief David Madden said a few positive words about the show. He said that it's one of those rare shows that really starts strong right out the gate and just keeps getting better. He gave compliments to the show's cast, saying they've really made their characters three-dimensional. Lastly, he said the production team is one of the best in the business.
Four episodes pushed back
A couple of season 3 spoilers have already turned up via the producers. The Deadline news crew got to speak with them at the recent 2017 Wondercon event in Anaheim, California back in early April 2017. They revealed that season 2 was actually given 22 episodes. However, those extra 4 episodes got pushed back to season 3. They didn't really say why. What they did say is that they will be stand-alone episodes that can really go anywhere as far as the storyline is concerned. They're going to be super weird.
One of the episodes will have a "Twilight Zone" feel to it which is dark and feels sort of like a play. They described another one of these episodes as being sort of a romp.
There's going to be a lot of music in one of them too.
New Roxie character
TV Line also came out with a season 3 spoiler scoop back in late March 2017. They revealed that actress Lauren Holly is going to show up in at least one of the future episodes as character Roxie. Its reported that her storyline is going to involve a Las Vegas casino. She is actually going to appear in one of those four episodes that got bumped from season 2 to season 3.
Looking at the all-important ratings numbers, the show's second season opened up to 4.3 million viewers and scored a 1.3 demo rating for the 18-49 age groups. The ratings were down 46 percent from the season 1 finale episode, and the viewing numbers were down 39 percent from the season 1 finale.
Drop in the numbers
The last episode that aired on May 22nd, 2017 scored an 0.80 demographic rating and brought in 3 million viewers. So, it saw a bit of a drop in the numbers. Hopefully it'll be able to rebound when season 3 starts up. At the very least, those numbers better not continue to drop further down. Season 3 is expected to premiere around late September or early October 2017. Stay tuned.
