The CW has announced its fall 2017 schedule and fans have noted that there are two new shows. “Valor” and “Dynasty” will air on Mondays and Wednesdays respectively. There are two other shows planned for the midseason, “Black Lightning” and “Life Sentence.” What are the four new shows about? Here’s a look at the upcoming freshmen shows.
A reboot of "Dynasty"
Let’s start with the reboot.
You’ve likely heard of the show “Dynasty.” It was a show in the 1980s that focused on two of the wealthiest fictional families in the United States. This will be a modern take on the same show, bringing the Colbys and Carringtons back to the small screen. Grant Show and Nathalie Kelley star, as Blake Carrington and Cristal. Blake’s daughter Fallon comes head-to-head with Cristal, who she doesn’t believe is worthy of joining the wealthy family.
A touch of military life with ‘Valor’
It’s been a while since a true military drama has reached the screens. There are plenty of crime dramas focusing on the CIA, FBI, and police, but what about the U.S. Army?
Well, “Valor” will make up for that. Airing on Mondays, the show will focus on a group of elite helicopter pilots who are trained to perform clandestine missions around the world. When one of their missions goes wrong with the first female pilot in the unit, military secrets start to unfold.
A non-Arrowverse superhero show "Black Lightning"
Arrowverse fans hoping for a five-way crossover in winter 2017 will be disappointed. The newest DC superhero show “Black Lightning” is certainly not part of the Arrowverse. Focused on retired superhero Jefferson Pierce, played by Cress Williams, the show will opt for a unique take on things. This isn’t about a superhero learning to control his powers, but about one forced to re-enter the world of crime fighting.
A high school principal who controls electricity will step back into his vigilante costume to stop a promising student from getting roped into the wrong situations.
A look at life after surviving cancer in "Life Sentence"
Lucy Hale comes hot off “Pretty Little Liars” and into the last of the CW’s new shows, “Life Sentence.” Stella was diagnosed with cancer eight years ago, believing it was a death sentence. When she learns she’s cured, she finds out that her family has numerous secrets that they’ve kept from her and she has to learn to live her life again. Some of these secrets and issues are from the choices she has made over the last eight years.
The CW’s new shows look promising. There is something for everyone, whether you want another superhero show, a light comedy, or a reboot of a classic.
