ABC has spent the last few days, renewing and canceling shows. Two Freshman sitcoms will live to see another season. "Speechless" stars Minnie Driver as Maya, mom to JJ (Micah Fowler), Ray (Mason Cook), Dylan (Kyla Kenedy). John Ross Bowie also stars as Maya's husband Jimmy, and Cedric Yarbrough as Kenneth, JJ's aid. The sitcom received a full season with an additional episode, making the total 23.

The season finale airs May 17.

Other Freshman sitcom, "American Housewife" was renewed for a season two, after receiving an additional episode that brought the total to 23. The show stars Katy Mixon as Katie Otto, Diedrich Bader as Katie's husband, and Meg Donnelly, Daniel DiMaggio, and Julia Butters as their three children. The season finale airs May 16.

Veteran sitcoms renewed by ABC

Long time favorite shows were also renewed by the network. "The Goldbergs" was renewed for seasons five and six. In addition, ABC has announced plans for the 80's series. The spin-off will focus on Bryan Callen's character, Rick Mellor, the gym teacher of the high school.

The premise will revolve around him teaming up with another teacher to act as father figures for the students. The season 4 finale will air May 17. Anthony Anderson-led sitcom, "Black-ish" received a renewal for season three, with Stacy Traub set to join. ABC has spin-off plans for this sitcom as well, revolving around the college experience of oldest child, Zoey (Yara Shahidi). The comedy is currently nearing a series order deal with sister network, Freeform. ABC announces that the show will aim at a younger audience and would be a better fit for Freeform.

"Modern Family" has been described by ABC president Channing Dungey as the centerpiece of their comedy brand for the last eight seasons, which is why the show was renewed for seasons nine and ten.

The finale for season eight airs May 17. The last sitcom renewed is "Fresh off the Boat," which receives a season four. The sitcom will also be found in comics come "Free Comic Book Day." The finale of season three will air May 16.

Fan favorite sitcoms canceled

With every happy renewal comes the news fans dread: cancellations. The Tim Allen-lead favorite, "Last Man Standing" was canceled after six seasons, despite good ratings. This has fans debating the reason behind ending the show. The Ken Jeong-led comedy, "Dr. Ken" was canceled after two seasons. "The Real O'Neals" was also canceled after two seasons. The current season received an order for additional episodes, but by the finale, the ratings had dropped the show to least watched comedy on ABC.

All three shows wrapped up with their series finales in March. In addition to these cancellations was Freshman show "Imaginary Mary," after only a handful of episodes.
