Actress Meghan Markle loves the skin she is in, and she has no problem being biracial. She doesn't usually defend the color of her skin, but she recently spoke out about her identity in an interview for "Beauty of Diversity" in Allure magazine.
Meghan Markle's identity
Meghan Markle's mother is African-American, and her father is Caucasian. The 35-year-old "Suits" actress said that as a child, it never bothered her that her mother and father had different skin colors.
She felt like she belonged and was loved by both of them, and it had nothing to do with the color of her mixed skin.
It wasn't until she started acting that she noticed that people were baffled about her identity. They couldn't figure out if she was black or white. In fact, they thought she was too dark to be white and too light to be black. To get acting jobs, she was labelled "ethnically ambiguous."
Meghan's pet peeve
The successful actress explained that she hates it when her freckles are covered up in photos. She told Allure that her Pet Peeve is when her skin tone is changed and her freckles are airbrushed out of her photos.
She wants the freckles kept in her photos because they are part of her. As a child, her father told her that "a face without freckles is a night without stars."
Relationship with Prince Harry
Apparently Prince Harry has no problem with his girlfriend's identity or her freckles. The 32-year-old prince, who is fifth in line to the throne of England, and Meghan have been dating since July 2016. They have spent a lot of time together since January. In fact, Meghan stayed at Harry's residence in Kensington Palace most of January and part of February.
Two weekends ago, the couple attended Prince Harry's closest friend's wedding in Jamaica. Last Sunday, they went on what Elle magazine called the most romantic date in London.
Meghan had always wanted to go to the National History Museum of London, so Harry arranged for a private tour after the museum was closed to the public. After having a romantic date with him last weekend, she is staying with him again since "Suits" will not start filming until April.
