Whitney Houston died five years ago on February 11, 2012 at the age of 48. It was the same weekend of the Grammys. The iconic singer was found dead in a hotel bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Her body was discovered as celebrities were gathering for Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party. The Los Angele coroner confirmed weeks later that Houston died of an accidental drowning as a result of cocaine abuse.

Hotel room

"Inside Edition" reported on what happens to hotel rooms where celebrities die. Following the death of whitney houston, fans wanted to stay in the room where she died.

Out of respect for the Houston family, the $500-a-night hotel suite was not rented to anyone. Room 434 was removed from the hotel list of available rooms. That did not keep an overwhelming number of people from requesting to stay there. Years later, the room number was changed, and it was renovated with new furnishing. Therefore, guests don't know if they are staying in the same room or not, because, while the room is still there, the number isn't.

This also marks the death of Anna Nicole Smith who died 10 years ago on February 8, 2007 at the age of 39. The model and actress died of an accidental prescription drug overdose at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, Florida. Shortly after her death, fans wanted to stay in Room 607.

The room is still there, but it has a new number. It was also remodeled and the number was changed. Guests stay there, but they don't know it was the room where anna nicole smith died.

Clive Davis' promise

Whitney's longtime friend, Clive Davis, promised to make sure the singer's legacy continues. The 84-year old music producer is thinking about her death on this fifth anniversary, especially at the time of the Grammys.

Davis says that even though years have passed so quickly since Whitney's death, he is dedicated to making sure that people never forget the talented singer who had a voice like no other.

Whitney Houston is still remembered, especially around this time of year when many of the same people who gathered in Beverly Hills for the Grammys five years ago will be there on February 12, 2017.
