"Game of Thrones" is perhaps the most famous TV series of all time. In today’s day and age, with access to the internet and social media having been made much easier for everyone, it has grown increasingly common to see spoilers online about your favorite movies and television shows everywhere. They sometimes seem near unavoidable, and in light of this, it has been recently reported by Time that the cast and crew members of "Game of Thrones" are taking rather extreme measures to ensure that no information is leaked about the show before it airs.

No more leaks

Actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister on the show, was on the Scandinavian talk show Skavlan and revealed that top-security measures are being taken to prevent any details of the storyline being released. According to Coster-Waldau, actors are no longer being given a script or dialogue ahead of time and will instead be equipped with an earpiece which will deliver the dialogues, line by line, during the time of the shoot. Though HBO has not announced when the final season of the series will air, fans of "Game of Thrones" are eagerly awaiting the impending release.

HBO’s measures to prevent leaking of information comes after a string of hacks into their databases. Hackers even released multiple episodes of the show online, days in advance to their actual airing on the HBO channel.

In addition, even when the hackers did not release episodes of the television show online, they did regularly release copies of the scripts online. As reported by the Associated Press, Coster-Waldau stated that during the first few seasons, the actors all received hard-copies of the scripts well in advance.

HBO studio is taking steps to prevent any hacks

As the seasons progressed, to increase security measures, the studio resorted to using digital files which were emailed using a verified email id. After the studio was hacked and the offenders demanded several million dollars in ransom, the studio has taken an extreme step in the name of security measures.

While it is commendable that the HBO studio is taking steps to prevent any hacks to their system or the leaks of future episodes or scripts, some fans are worried that if actors are given their lines on the spot, it may affect the quality of their acting. How much preparation and thought can go into the character if the actor is only given a limited time for their character’s development in the coming season? Only time will tell when the final season is released.
