After three months in the White House, Donald Trump still makes time to brag about his general election victory. Just hours after Hillary Clinton came out of the shadows to criticize the president, Trump decided to fire back on social media.
Trump on Twitter
Heading into the 2016 presidential election, the idea of a Donald Trump victory was not on the mind's of most Americans.
Even after the start of his campaign, Trump was viewed as not much more than a laughing stock and joke candidate who would eventually fade out. However, as the months moved on, the former host of "The Apprentice" was able to gained a strong following, riding that momentum to the Republican National Convention where he went on to accept the party's nomination for president. Despite this, Trump was seen as the heavy underdog headed into the general election against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. When the results were announced, Trump's upset win shocked even himself, and still has millions of people around the world shaking their heads.
Over the last five months since Election Day, Trump has often gloated about his victory, but has downplayed the fact that he lost the popular vote by over three million votes. Clinton broke her silence on these issues during a recent interview, which prompted the president to take out his frustrations during a May 2 message on Twitter.
Taking to his Twitter account on Tuesday was Donald Trump and it was more than obvious that he is not letting Hillary Clinton's comments go unchallenged. During her interview with the Women for Women luncheon, Clinton put her election loss on the lap of the Russians and James Comey, the director of the FBI. As expected, the president, wasn't too pleased and claimed that Comey was actually a positive for Clinton.
"FBI Director Comey was the best thing that ever happened to Hillary Clinton in that he gave her a free pass for many bad deeds!" Donald Trump tweeted out. In a follow-up tweet, Trump continued to hit back. "The phony Trump/Russia story was an excuse used by the Democrats as justification for losing the election," he wrote on Twitter, while adding, "Perhaps Trump just ran a great campaign?"
Moving forward
Donald Trump continues to deny any wrongdoing over the growing Russian scandal, despite evidence that contradicts his claims. As his presidency moved forward, the commander in chief doesn't look to be changing his tune anytime soon.
