It's that time of the year again. Time for the Library Of Congress 2017 National Book Festival. For all the bookworms out there, the event will take place on Saturday the 2nd of September 2017 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Entrance is free and the doors will open at 8.30 a.m. The festival planners have informed the public that increased safety measures will be in place so that the festival-goers can focus all their attention on the wonderful literature available.
Featured Authors
The National Book Festival attracts all the best authors, illustrators and poets to Washington each year. The main stage line-up was announced in June this year and includes some of the biggest names in literature. Authors who will be presenting include David Baldacci, David McCullough, Thomas L. Friedman and Diana Gabaldon, just to name a few.
There is also a long list of other literary greats that will be appearing on the other stages so be sure to check them out! The audience will have the opportunity to listen to some of the authors' stories, find out a bit more about their works and what inspired them and also ask the authors some questions.
Planning your day
The day starts at 8.30 a.m. and I would advise getting to the grounds as early as possible to ensure you get to see everything you want to. There will be stalls where you can buy some of the featured literature and also choose from thousands of other titles. For the bookworms with kids, there will also be family-fun areas which are sure to instill a love of literature in your young ones.
The Festival area will also be divided up to include several stages. According to the Library of Congress, there will be separate stages for everything you can imagine, including children's fiction, adult fiction, contemporary fiction, historical fiction and much more. From 9.30 a.m. hundreds of authors will be presenting and answering questions from these stages.
There will also be one main stage where the Festival's main authors will be presenting to 2,000 people.
I would advise that you download the National Book Festival App to help you plan your day. You can also check out the schedule on the official website. It would perhaps be best to plan on attending a few of your favorite authors' presentations and then spending the rest of the time wandering through the stalls and enjoying the company of the hundreds of authors and fellow book lovers present.
