For those who have not played a visual novel yet, Doki Doki Literature Club is a good entry-level game. If you are not used to how this kind of game works, you have only to pass through the scenes and texts of the game and choose routes that will (or will not) lead to different paths and endings. A visual novel is a combination of game and anime. Doki Doki Literature Club very much like this. It features a main character, a boy who enters a literature club featuring four girls; Monika, the president of the club, Natsuki, a "tsundere," Yuri, a "yandere," and Sayori, the boy's childhood friend.
This game seems to be a normal visual novel and dating simulator, but there is something different about DDLC.
What's the difference?
The difference between "Doki Doki Literature Club" and other visual novels is that other visual novels do not talk with you. I am trying to be the really spoiler-free in this article, so the only thing I can say is that different than Katawa Shoujo- another very famous dating simulator - and Fate/stay night, which is a so famous visual novel that has even games for iOS and Android, DDLC makes fun of what a dating sim is and the game even plays with your computer and with its own data. Another thing that is possible to perceive about this game is the cute atmosphere that soon is dissipated.
After this, terrifying things start to happen. I will not detail what those things are because it would be a spoiler. So, if you want to know more, play the game, but do not forget the first message that shows up when the game starts. The game is not suitable for children, depressed people, and for those who are easily disturbed.
Release 'Doki Doki' to other platforms?
In my opinion, it would not be possible to release this to platforms other than Windows, MacOS, and Linux. Maybe Android and iOS could receive a version of DDLC, but only those two. On other platforms, such as PS4, which is receiving visual novels, it would not work and maybe it would not work on other Video Games too.
I think the game would need to be extremely modified to work on them. There is no way you could access the data of the game while playing it on a PS4 or Switch.
The rising fandom of DDLC
While there is no much time the game was released, the fandom of "Doki Doki" is very big and the game already has its own wiki and its fans keep posting theories about the game. Furthermore, the game was released on September 22, 2017, for Windows, MacOS, and Linux and later, on October 6, for Steam. The game was developed by Team Salvato, the same team that is known for its modding on "Super Smash Bros. Melee." Maybe, what made people fall in love with DDLC is the metafictional value of the game.
