The Xbox One X version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunts got a recent Update that enhances the game graphics on Xbox One X. However, when Xbox One X was launched, players discovered they could play an un-patched version of the game totally in 60 FPS. The Witcher 3 update was released today and it implemented new functions to the game. Players can now choose between playing in 4K and 30 FPS or in 1080p and 60 FPS. Following this update, players can go to their display settings menu and they can choose between "4K Mode" or "Performance Mode" under a new "advanced" option.

The update also adds HDR support and enhanced shadows, ambient occlusion, and many other features.

The features present in The Witcher 3 update

Among the features, the Performance Mode keeps the game in stable 60 FPS and 1080p with peaks of 4K. In 4K Mode more things were introduced. For example, higher resolution textures and texture filtering. The game that used to look pretty will look even prettier. The Performance Mode, on the other hand, introduces dynamic resolution scaling to maintain the constant 60 FPS. The update is very alike to Bethesda's update on Fallout 4 for Xbox One X. The difference between both modes is not that big though. You may notice the difference in the beams of light through the trees, for example.

For those who prefer to play the game very smoothly, they must prefer Performance Mode.

The update will also come to PS4 Pro

The PS4 Pro version of The Witcher 3 has already received a 4K update, but it has not received HDR support yet. In a future update, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunts for PS4 Pro will also receive an update featuring HDR.

Even with 4K and HDR support on the PS4 Pro version, the graphics may not be as good as they are in Xbox One X since the latter console may feature better graphics.

More information about The Witcher 3 update

When you first launch the game after the update, the default option will be the 4K Mode. Some players said they experienced a strange bug in which they changed the option from 4K Mode to Performance Mode, but turned back to the options screen and the 4K Mode was still activated.

However, the game did change according to those gamers. The frame rate increased instead of the graphics, but the menu option said the opposite. Also, according to some players, the new enhanced graphics do not change the game too drastically. The most important thing is being capable of playing it in native 60 FPS because it really enhances the gameplay. Also, this update may be played by a large number of players since Xbox One X sold very well and many players will download it. Also, we may see many reviews about this update on the internet.
