'Friday the 13th: The Game' is lifting ban on its next patch

Gun Media and Illfonic will lift the ban of cheaters of exploiters when it rolls out its next update for “Friday the 13th: The Game.” Several weeks ago, the game developers made deliberate measures to deal with players who are not properly playing the asymmetrical horror title. In addition, it rolled out an update to reduce the rampant team killing practiced by several players in Public Matches.

The latest news about the lifting of the ban confused some players leading them to interpret the developers move as a way to encourage players to cheat.

Upcoming patch

On the official “Friday the 13th: The Game” forum on Steam, one player posted that the team’s practice of permanently banning players who have used exploits is unfair. The player added that it does not work on multiplayer games. He said that it works fine with other titles and cited “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds,” and “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.”

Ben Strauss, one of the developers, responded to the thread and shared that the team is going to unban players who were caught using exploits when the next patch rolls out.

Interestingly, the developer’s response earned backlash from players. Some players believe that this move is an encouragement for cheaters to go back in the game. Other players even warned the developer that this could lead to the mass departure of players for fear that they will lose the game because of cheaters.

Strauss further explained the reason for the developers. He even cited an example of players unintentionally stumbling into an exploit or have used the exploit once or even for fun. Furthermore, the community manager likened the permanent bans of one-time cheaters or exploiters to the sentencing death penalty to driving caught over speeding. In other words, Gun Media and Illfonic plan to remove the permanent bans to offenders who have used the exploits that are already fixed or addressed.

New Counselor

Meanwhile, the much-awaited iteration of Jason Vorhees dubbed as Part IV Jason is now available. Along with this is the arrival of the new Jarvis House Map, and the new Counselor Mitch Floyd. Interestingly, the patch notes summary released by the developer for the latest update contained an error. Instead of writing Mitch as the new Counselor, the name Fox is written.

This triggered speculations from players that a new Counselor will soon be released in the asymmetrical horror title. Gun Media and Illfonic have not yet confirmed this. Fans are, however, hopeful that Fox will soon be playable in the game.
