In spite of the tight competition, Sony remains to be the number one game console of this generation. Thus, a lot of game enthusiasts are excited for the coming of the PlayStation 5.

Although Sony remains tight-lipped about it, a number of assumptions and theories are now emerging from known experts. In fact, several claims are swirling regarding its features and its possible release.

A 2018-predicted release

Sony has tentatively confirmed the coming of the PlayStation 5. It was earlier revealed that it was going to release a next-generation console following the PlayStation 4, Value Walk reported.

With that, Macquarie Capital Securities analyst Damian Thong has predicted that the multinational conglomerate company is going to release the PS5 in 2018, specifically in the year’s second half. He was the one who correctly foretold PlayStation 4 Slim and the PlayStation 4 Pro's unveiling.

The PS4 was first released in November 2013. If its successor will be unveiled in 2018, it will just have a five-year gap.

Some analysts explained that five years is long enough especially now that the technology is moving up fast. However, just right after the PS4's release, fans were treated with the PS4 Slim and the Ps4 Pro.

The PS4 Pro is commended for its incremental upgrade as the user won’t have to buy a newer model to experience advanced technology. So, the PS5’s release might be later than expected because of the PS4 Pro’s new features and more improved functioning.

A proper timing to be unveiled

On the other hand, another analyst Wedbush Securities’ Michael Pachter foresees the coming of the PlayStation 5 in 2019.

He also guessed that it would be backward compatible with PS4 Pro titles. He explained (via Trusted Reviews) that Sony is still waiting for the 4K TV’s more augmented saturation before it will finally reveal the new generation game console.

In an interview with Gaming Bolt, Pachter revealed that the game enthusiasts are wondering if the PS5 can play the PS4 Pro games. “I think it will,” he said, thus it might be built with backward compatibility. He then predicted that he is not expecting the hardware to be unveiled in 2018, but in 2019 or 2020. “Probably 2019,” he confirmed.

Sony might just be waiting for the proper time to release its new game console as it will be a 4K-capable device. If the 4K televisions are going to be 50 percent cheaper in the USA’s market and 35 percent more affordable in the rest of the world, then it might be the right time to introduce it to everyone.
