Many expected Square Enix to showcase “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). Apparently, the title was a no-show, leading fans to believe that the studio has no plans of developing it. Well, it's not actually true, as some leaks pertaining to the title have found their way to the Internet.
The aforementioned critically acclaimed video game publisher had a very quiet E3, with “Life is Strange: Before the Storm” being the only title they presented.
This one here is basically a prequel to the original title that acquired huge success following its release. However, this silence became a noise, as a leaked concept art of the supposed title was just retrieved.
The game’s rollercoaster history
It is worth noting that Square Enix, in one way or another, never announced or confirmed the said title to be a game. This was soon changed when a fan reportedly saw the game on a marketing person’s laptop. This eventually started the flame that gave birth to all the rumors pertaining to the supposed title. Of course, this was believed to be fake, as rumors really have to be taken with a grain of salt.
However, with the recent leaked of a concept art, “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” might just really be an upcoming title from the studio. Interestingly, the leaked uses and displays the same name of the video game company’s creative agency called TakeOff. This goes without saying that the same art can be seen on the agency’s official site. This organization is basically about creating trailers, websites and animations, among others, for multiple video game companies, one of which is Square Enix.
What the concept art features
Unfortunately, the concept art of “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” was quickly taken down, though some fans were able to upload it on NeoGAF. For the most part of it, a pyramid can be seen.
The only question, however, is the location of the pyramid. Some say it is in Egypt, while there are those who believe it is somewhere in South America. Lara Croft, the main protagonist in the franchise, can even be seen wearing protective clothing that shields her from the intense coldness.
Speculations have it that “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” is being developed by Eidos Montreal, not Crystal Dynamics as what most fans expected. This is solely because the latter is fully focused on working with Square Enix’s forthcoming Avengers title. Regardless, it is interesting to see what this upcoming game could offer to the table.
