Since the release of "Overwatch" in May 2016, Blizzard has added a few new Maps, and another map is coming to the game very soon. At the moment, there are 14 maps that are used in quick and competitive play and four exclusive arcade mode maps. In addition, four maps (Ilios, Lijiang Tower, Nepal and Oasis) each have three sub-maps.
Recently, user /u/RichardGryffon discovered new "Overwatch" maps in the game's files and he decided to share it with other players who visited the game's subreddit. The Redditor found references to three new maps, and one of them is the map that will soon be released on live servers, Horizon Lunar Colony.
Beside it, there are two more maps and it is unknown whether they will be used in quick and competitive gameplay, or just in arcade modes.
New Zealand and India maps
Beside Horizon Lunar Colony, the Redditor found the file maunganui_es, which is most likely related to Mount Maunganui in New Zealand. The second part of the file name indicates that this is meant to be an escort map, and the Redditor guessed that players will maybe escort a payload up the mountain. "Overwatch" has three escort maps so far (Dorado, Route 66 and Watchpoint: Gibraltar)
Another new "Overwatch" map that was data mined is utopia_c. One of the game's characters, Symmetra, is from Utopaea in India, so it makes a lot of sense that Blizzard adds this map.
Looking at the name of the file, it is most likely a control map and it could very easily have its own sub-maps.
New 'Overwatch' maps
Blizzard has released two new maps for quick and competitive gameplay since game's release, which are Eichenwalde and Oasis. There are four other ones that were added after the game's release, but they are only used in arcade mode.
In addition to these, "Overwatch" had a few special places for season events, such as Estádio das Rãs, which was used in the Summer Games, and Adlersbrunn, used in the Halloween Terror event.
It is important to note that, if released, the data mined maps might not be used in quick or competitive gameplay. They could be used for arcade mode only, or simply for another seasonal event Blizzard will have.
Will we get the new maps?
The redditor who data mined this made it clear that he wasn't able to find any images or sounds for these maps. However, he also found Horizon Lunar Colony files and that is the map that will soon be released, which is something that gives "Overwatch" players hope they will get new content soon.
