Jury selection for the federal trial of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera is underway in Brooklyn, New York. Extraordinary measures are in effect to safeguard the identities and lives of people who ultimately serve as jurors determining the fate of the accused leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel.

While El Chapo has been detained, awaiting his trial, his most-beloved sons are reportedly at the helm of his alleged drug organization.

Ivan Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar and Jesus Alfredo Guzmán Salazar are his favorites, according to the Daily Mail (UK).

Accused drug kingpin leader’s son wanted by DEA

His son Jesus, 35, is a wanted man, ABC 13 reported. The idiom “like father, like son” is applicable. As with his father being more notoriously known as El Chapo, Jesus is more commonly referred to by his nickname, which is Alfredillo. Federal agents in Chicago, Illinois have their focus on capturing Alfredillo, who is one of the DEA’s top 10 fugitives, AB7 pointed out.

El Chapo’s son, wife flaunting wealth on social media

Alfredillo has taken the same approach as El Chapo’s wife Emma Coronel Aispuro, 29.

The alleged drug lord’s son and wife are adept at spending excessively on luxury and lavish items. Each also boasts of their purchases, flaunting photos on social media. While Alfredillo appears to use Facebook, Aispuro leans more toward Instagram and Twitter.

Prosecutors take note of relatives’ cash flow

It seems that El Chapo did make, before his capture in Mexico following his last prison escape and extradition to the U.S. in 2017, to tell his relatives it might not sit well with federal prosecutors to see the exorbitant amount of cash flow readily at their disposal. His son is quite fond of weapons and private jets – as displayed on his Facebook account.

Potential threat to trial witnesses

With Alfredillo on the streets, he presents a potential threat, according to several media reports, such as ABC 13. From the appearance of his social media, prosecutors were right on the money when they explained to the federal judge, Brian Cogan, that El Chapo has both the will and the resources to harm witnesses, along with their families even after they “have been relocated.”

For the witnesses’ protection, the U.S. government moved them, but the security measures will not help if they are found by someone who is determined to silence them.

Freedom at stake for alleged drug lord

El Chapo is reportedly a billionaire. He has a great deal at stake with his trial underway.

His freedom is on the line. His future liberty being possibly stripped away, depending on the outcome of the trial, paints the picture of a man who or sons who can potentially determine to take drastic steps against those who could send him to prison.

U.S. feds say sons running cartel in Mexico

Federal investigators are confident that El Chapo’s sons now call the shots for the cartel in Mexico. His sons reportedly “remain in charge of his vast drug trafficking empire,” ABC 7 noted.

If the feds are accurate, El Chapo’s sons have motive to do everything, within their reach, to sustain that control and power – even if that may entail exacting retribution. For his sons, the display of wealth lends credence to the saying, “Money is no object.”
