Elon Musk is a billionaire entrepreneur and he has set up his Boring Company to build modern generation transport links that will be environment-friendly. His company has landed the contract to build a futuristic transportation link to the Chicago city airport. It will be known as the Chicago Express Loop and link downtown Chicago with O'Hare International Airport. The system will use underground tunnels to take passengers in battery-powered vehicles at speeds of up to 150 miles per hour. According to CNN, Mayor Rahm Emanuel feels that introduction of this superfast transport system will help the city to progress, and create job opportunities for future generations.

In his words “this transformative project will help Chicago write the next chapter in our legacy of innovation and invention."

The Boring Company of Elon Musk

The leaders in Chicago zeroed in on Elon Musk and gave him the contract of building the superfast and environment-friendly transport system to Musk’s Boring Company. It has already started a similar project in Los Angeles and has finished building the first stretch of tunnels which will be opened to the public in the near future. They will be offered free rides, subject to getting necessary approvals. The project will be completely funded by The Boring Company. According to its website, the Chicago Express Loop will reduce the journey time to 12 minutes and will be several times than existing system that caters to the airport.

The vehicles or "electric skates," are designed to accommodate between eight and 16 passengers.

Innovation is Elon Musk's trademark

Elon Musk is obsessed with Renewable Energy and has gone in for electric cars in a big way through his Tesla Inc. He has also promoted solar power when Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane Maria.

The concept of a battery-driven underground transportation system is an extension of that line of thinking because it is environment-friendly.

Reuters confirms that Chicago has opted for Elon Musk’s Boring Company to build the transit system that will take people from downtown Chicago to O’Hare International Airport within a very short time.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel has explained that the new system will cover the 17-mile distance in 12 minutes. Right now, it takes from 30 to 45 minutes using road or rail transport. The Company has indicated that the passenger fare will be less than that charged by existing operators and will operate 20 hours a day, seven days a week.
