The annual March for life will be held today in Washington D.C. With a crowd of over 100,000 expected to be marching this afternoon.
The March for Life started in 1974
It was begun by Nellie Gray, as a protest for the 1973 supreme court decision to make abortion legal nationwide. The event started with around 20,000 participants and has grown since.
This event draws crowds of all ages to D.C where they show their support for the pro-life movement.
The president will address the crowd
Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the press secretary, said the Trump administration announced The President will address The March via satellite.
Making Trump the first sitting president to have addressed The March for Life in its 45-year history, and giving the pro-life movement an unprecedented show of support.
Last year Vice President Pence gave a speech to the March for Life, becoming the highest-ranking official to have addressed the marchers.
Speaker of the house Paul Ryan, NFL player Tim Tebow, former NFL player Matt Birk, and his wife Adriana Birk, will be among the speakers at this year’s event.
This event will be the 45th March for Life
The March for Life is held annually, around the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade. This event will be the 45th march since it began in the seventies. The event draws a giant crowd of people, from all walks of life, and all ages, to Washington D.C.
Love saves lives
“Deep down, we’re all drawn towards selflessness,” said Jeannie Mancini, president of the March for Life, about choosing the theme –love saves lives— for this year’s march.
The March for Life President, also said this year's theme focuses on the need for loving solutions for women, in crisis pregnancies. Pointing out, that women need housing, and other financial assistance, as well as pregnancy help.
This year’s theme will focus on the needs of both mothers, and their children.
The crowd this year has a lot to celebrate
With the new administration, the causes of pro-life activists have gotten a boost.
President Trump increasingly supports the pro-life movement. Even yesterday, Jan 18th, Health and Human Services secretary Eric Hargan announced they were creating a new ‘conscience and religious freedom division’ that will Protect doctors and nurses from needing to provide services that go against their conscience.
This is just one of many proposed moves, that the administration supports, for pro-life causes. He has also made moves to defund Planned Parenthood, and UNFPA both supporters of abortion.
