Apple's iPhone 8 Release Date is the most anticipated smartphone event of the year. The iPhone 8 is expected to introduce us to a wide range of new features, heavily improved specs, and a complete design overhaul.

The former generation of the lineup, the iPhone 7, was launched last September, while its successor will most likely make its debut in a few months time.

iPhone 8 specs and features: will it live up to the hype?

Last year's offering, despite that it had gone through some technical improvements, was quite disappointing as it was the third consecutive generation to carry the same design.

Based on Apple's decade-long pattern, the iPhone undergoes a significant redesigning process every two years, therefore it was a very uncharacteristic move.

With that being said, according to most sources, the iPhone 8 should stir quite the excitement once it comes out of the wraps.

In terms of specs, we believe that the iPhone 8 will sport a Stainless steel chassis, flat all-glass design, a 5.8in edge-to-edge AMOLED display, accompanied by cheaper 5.5in and 4.7in LCD technology and a dual lens 12MP camera for the premium tier, and single-lens for cheaper models. The device will be powered by Apple's A11 quad-core CPU, with 2GB tagging along, for the normal-sized edition, and 3GB for the iPhone 8 Plus.

A True Tone display might show up this year too. This kind of display automatically adjusts the color and intensity of the iPhone's display based on its surrounding environment.

According to Asian news outlet, Nikkei, this will be the first generation of the series to come with wireless charging (up to 15ft). That particular feature has been part of rival Samsung Galaxy S series for two years now, its first appearance being with the Galaxy S6.

For those who still prefer old school, the wired option will be available as well.

The aforementioned rumor has been further confirmed by iPhone 8 assembler Wistron.

"Assembly process for the previous generations of [iPhones] have not changed much, though new features like waterproof and wireless charging now require some different testing, and waterproof function will alter the assembly process a bit,” Wistron CEO Robert Hwang told the media on Wednesday.

It is worth adding here that the iPhone 7 already has an IP67 rating, hence witnessing a completely waterproof iPhone this year shouldn't qualify as a big surprise.

In addition to fancy new stuff, recently surfaced reports suggest that the Cupertino giant might be considering supplanting the relatively new TouchID with 3D sensing modules, which will enable facial and Iris recognition.

Supplier Largan Precision also confirmed it would ship lenses for 3D sensing modules in the second half of this year. CEO Adam Lin told reporters, "We will have lenses for [a] 3-D sensing [module used in smartphone] ready to ship in the second half this year."

Moreover, the 3D camera could also pave the way for augmented reality, as IB Times correctly pointed out in their own report.

iPhone 8 price and release date: how much will it cost me?

Relying on Apple's product launch pattern, we are confident that the iPhone 8 release date will be taking place in the second or third week of September. As far as pricing is concerned, up until now, Apple has been consistent with the iPhone's price tag.

The price tag may increase this, as various sources suggest that the iPhone 8 price might exceed $1,000, due to the aforementioned additions, which will ostensibly cost the company more.
