David Benioff and Dan Weiss recently confirmed that Game of Thrones” Season 8 will only have six episodes at the SXSW film festival in Texas on Sunday. Aside from that, the two showrunners also gave juicy details about the much-awaited epic seventh season.

The two producers also confirmed that Ed Sheeran will be seen in the penultimate season of the television adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s “A Song if Ice and Fire" in a cameo role. In fact, they revealed that they have been asking the 26-year-old musician to be in the show for quite a while now.

Maisie Williams reason behind the singer’s short stint

Benioff and Weiss didn’t give much detail about Sheeran’s appearance in “Game of Thrones” Season 7. They, too, didn’t reveal the role the “Thinking Out Loud” hitmaker is going to portray. However, the singer-songwriter himself confirmed his coming to the show in a tweet. “Guess the cats out the bag...” he wrote along with a Vanity Fair’s article about the reason for his appearance.

Apparently, the “Photograph” singer has been invited to the television series to surprise Maisie Williams. It has been said that the 19-year-old star, who plays the role of Arya Stark, is an avid fan of the hitmaker.

Other musicians appeared in ‘GoT’

The appearance of Sheeran in “Game of Thrones” Season 7 will not be the first time that a musician has graced the show. The likes of Mastodon, Of Monsters and Men, Sigur Ros, and members of Coldplay already have had short stints in the program.

Sigur Ros and Of Monsters and Men performed in “Game of Thrones.” However, it is not yet sure if the “Shape of You” singer is going to do the same or if he will be even recognized on screen.

To recall, when Mastodon appeared in the show, they were transformed into the members of the Wildlings as zombies.

Singer’s appearance makes fans excited

Of course, many are excited to see Sheeran in “Game of Thrones” Season 7. It even sent the Twitter world into a meltdown.
