After months of leaks and speculations, Apple has now finally launched its long-awaited next generation smartphone, the Apple iPhone X. While the company did launch a number of new products at its Special Event presentation today, the star of the show is undoubtedly the high-end $1,000 iPhone X. Apple also launched the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus, the successor to last year's iPhones, but the pair instantly became obsolete after Tim Cook unveiled the more powerful and radical tenth generation iPhone.

A huge jump

Unlike the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus, which looks quite similar to its predecessors, the Special Edition iPhone has a radical new design that includes an all-glass body, an Edge-to-edge display, and no home button. As for its latest features, the new iPhone sports a brand new Face ID, which replaces Touch ID as well as a new wireless charging system.

World leading hardware

Powering the new iPhone's extremely advanced features is an equally advanced new chip called the Apple A11 Bionic. Apple claims that the new processor is the most powerful and smartest chip it has ever produced.

The chip is a six-core processor with two dedicated performance cores that translate to a 70 percent faster performance when compared to the A10 Fusion. Along with its enhanced performance, the A11 Bionic also offers better power efficiency, which equates to an additional two hours of battery life when compared to the iPhone 7. The chip itself has also been built to work seamlessly with AR apps, 3D games, and the device's TrueDepth camera system.

A new take on security

Due to the technical challenges of implementing a screen-embedded fingerprint scanner, Apple has completely done away with the notion and has instead introduced a new biometric system called the Face ID. Unlike Samsung's Iris-scanner or other facial recognition systems, Apple utilizes its TrueDepth camera system to project more than 30,000 infra-red dots to create a mathematical model of a user's face.

Apple claims that this is much more secure than Touch ID and cannot be fooled be masks or photos.

The iPhone X will start at $999 for the 64GB version, with prices going up for the higher internal memory models. The device will be offered in either space gray or silver with preorders starting on Oct. 27. The company has not yet mentioned if there will be other colors available for the special edition iPhone. The device will start shipping on Nov. 3 along with the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus.
