Apple is just a few days away before unveiling the iPhone 8. The device is Apple’s premium smartphone equipped with a new design, upgraded specs, and innovative features. Apple will launch the device on September 12 at the Steve Jobs Theater. The iPhone 8 is also expected to have a major design overhaul. The company has not fully redesigned its iPhones since it released the Iphone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in 2014.
Premium smartphone will shake-up the market
There is no doubt that the iPhone 8 is the most anticipated smartphone to arrive this year, which is why some tech companies worry about its launch next week. According to a report from CNBC, there is a huge possibility that the upcoming device could take down the market. If the device disappoints the market, then Apple’s sheer size and massive weight could present a drag, not only in itself but the rest of the market.
Apple might experience shipping delays
The $1,000 iPhone 8 might also have some shipping delays due to production issues. Apple is reportedly looking for new OLED screen supplier because its sole supplier Samsung has expensive OLED units.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that the OLED displays for the iPhone 8 will cost Apple between $120 and $130 per unit, while it will cost $45 to $55 per unit of the 5.5-inch LCD screen of the iPhone 7 Plus. The effect of limited stocks could be massive, and it could also affect the market.
What will the company call its flagship smartphone?
Apple is expected to unveil two new smartphones alongside the iPhone 8. It is the iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus, which are minor updates of the previous model. According to CBC, the company has not confirmed the exact name of the upcoming premium smartphone. Some rumors claim that the company might also call it as iPhone Pro, iPhone X, or iPhone Edition.
But as for now, let us call it the iPhone 8.
Rumored features
The premium smartphone is expected to sport 3D facial recognition sensors, which will replace the existing TouchID fingerprint sensor. The facial recognition sensors can unlock the phone and verify payments through Apple Pay using a generated “FaceID.” The device will also feature an inductive wireless charging technology, which will charge the device wirelessly within a few feet. The iPhone 8 will run with the latest operating system called iOS 11. The iOS 11 have some improvements on its Apple's voice-activated assistant Siri, App Store, and other user interface updates.
