Apple introduced its own version of a smart home speaker at WWDC, 2017 back in June. The speaker called, “HomePod,” is going to take on the big players in the market including Google Home and Amazon Echo. The Smart Home speaker is powered by Apple’s digital voice assistant, Siri. The firm is expected to launch its speaker for use in December this year. Its starting price will be around $349.

Design and features

According to a report by Tech Radar, Apple will probably introduce two primary color variants: White and Space Gray with HomePod. It is expected to feature a woofer that extends to 4-inches in height along with 7-tweeters for support.

The device will also apparently come with the ability to pair up with another speaker. This way, the consumers can enjoy an all-encompassing-theatre experience. The total size of the smart home speaker is roughly 7-inches. It is pretty obvious that Apple will extend support for its AirPods and iOS 11 with HomePod.

The Cupertino-giant is apparently testing the kind of technology that can detect the space that it is placed in, through the use of sensors. If this comes equipped in HomePod, then it will be able to automatically adjust its volume according to the number of people present in the room. This technology will especially come to use when someone is on a call, and there’s a lot of disturbance emerging from the background.

The HomePod could selectively eliminate the background noise and pay more heed to the individual’s voice. In addition to this, the device also features 6 microphones, which only further improves the experience for users. The Siri digital voice assistant will be able to pick up on voice commands in a better manner.

Device with customisation options

With iOS 11, Apple has provided developers with greater freedom to create apps and features. The smart home speaker will extend its support to the control center easily, several rumors suggest. If this actually turns out to be true, then the users will be able to command thousands of apps. Siri has also received an upgrade, because of which it can now adapt to different accents, voices, and languages seamlessly.

Apple might have a tough time breaking through the smart home speaker industry, given that it’s already dominated by Amazon and Google. But, given its popularity, it doesn’t appear that it will take longer to catch up with them. Overall the device is said to be a good option in smart speakers market.
