The Moto X Play is the latest smartphone to get the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update. The smartphone was launched in 2015 and is quite late in getting the software update. In the process, the handset has bypassed Android 7.0 Nougat, which most of the smartphones these days are getting updated to.
However, Moto X Play users need not worry, as the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update would mean handling not too many bug fixes. Motorola has uploaded the changelog in its support forum, which details all the major changes the software update will bring in its folds.
Moto X Play software enhancements
The update has been rolled out over-the-air and would take some time to reach all Moto X Play smartphone owners. The Nougat update brings features such as multi-window, improved Doze mode, quick reply, app shortcuts, and more. Apart from the Android 7.1.1 Nougat custom changes, the firmware update will also introduce video calling.
The update will be coming with the Google Duo video calling app on its tails. The Google Duo is a simple reliable video calling application that will let a user call other Google Duo app owners for free. Other than these changes, the software update will also improve the stability of the device and will also bring Google’s May security patch.
How to update
A Moto X Play user can update his/her device automatically or manually. It is advisable to ensure that the handset has at least 50 percent charge for a smooth download of the files. One must also ensure that they connect the smartphone to a strong data or WI-Fi connection to make sure there is no hindrance during the installation process.
If you have received the update notification, then select tap on the “Yes, I’m in” button to start the download. Once the files have been downloaded, select “Install now” from the on-screen prompt message that has come up. Once the software has been installed in the system, the smartphone will reboot automatically to set things in proper order.
Manual update
In case the Android N update does not land on your handset even after a considerable time, the user can download and install it manually. All you need to do is to open the Settings menu and select the About phone option. From there, click and proceed to System updates and check for any available update. Once the update shows up on screen, click on “Yes, I’m in” to start the download. Follow the on-screen prompts to install and update your Moto X Play smartphone.
