The first-person shooter adaptation of “The Walking Dead” by Overkill Software has been again delayed. Starbreeze Studios, the owners of Overkill, announced that the game has now been pushed into the second half of 2018. It didn’t say why, but it can only be assumed the developers want it to be the best game it can be.

Albeit vague, the studio did say that the title has been extended to another year to realize its full potential – a reason that’s quite similar to what they said last year, on why the game was delayed from its previous release window, which is 2017.

And yet, Overkill was supposed to release the game 2016 originally, and despite the enthusiasm, fans have for the FPS, the studio could only manage a redundant excuse.

"The partners are convinced this will pave the way to success, maximize revenues, and cement it as a tent pole product for the next decade to come," Starbreeze said. Last year, the company also hinted on a possible Asian version for the game to coincide with the launch of its western counterpart.

What’s known so far

There are not many details about “The Walking Dead,” but when the game was first announced, it was touted as a multiplayer co-op game that would star brand new characters and a new storyline to boot.

Previously, Starbreeze promised that it would offer fans a glimpse of the game come May 10, Wednesday via its Twitch channel. Hopefully, details on the game’s development will be disclosed.

It’s also not a secret that the 2018 title was conceived with blessings from Robert Kirkman himself, creator of “The Walking Dead,” who hails it the “co-op action game fans have been waiting for.” It’s such a bold claim, but the creator of the hit comic books seems enthusiastic, which is why a lot of fans have been left disappointment with the news of yet another delay.

Are fans still optimistic?

Remarkably, the only vivid updates fans have been treated to since the game was first revealed in 2014 involve its many delays.

At the time of the first announcement, Overkill didn’t reveal much about the match. On the other hand, the company has been kind of busy with “Payday.” “Payday 2” is continuously being updated and “Payday 3” is reportedly in the works.

With these delays, the anticipation towards the new “The Walking Dead” game has grown in such a colossal state. A way to make up for the disappointments is to deliver a game that will surpass the TV series’ waning popularity by reviving the horror of the original material.
