OnePlus has decided to shelve its popular OnePlus 3T presumably to make space for its upcoming flagship OnePlus 5. In an emotional note posted on Thursday, May 25, the company wrote that it was thrilled the way OnePlus 3T was received after its launch in November 2016 and was proud of what the smartphone had achieved in its small lifespan. However, the company will be discontinuing the smartphone and admitted that this is the last call to anyone who wants to purchase the handset “before stocks runs out.”

OnePlus discontinues the handset

Steven G.

From OnePlus’s e-commerce department confirmed in the post that only a few units of the soon-to-be-shelved smartphone were left in the company’s warehouse. Thus, it would be wise for any interested buyers to get them as soon as possible before the stocks run out. In that case, one has to either make do with the Oneplus 3 or can wait till the OnePlus 5 launch. However, Steven assured that the company will continue to provide software updates and support to the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones.

Why ax the device?

Surprisingly, the news of the OnePlus 3T’s discontinuation was announced just a day after the company confirmed that its next flagship smartphone OnePlus 5 will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor.

The timing is too perfect to be termed a coincidence. Therefore, one can assume that the China-based company has taken this step to focus solely on its next flagship smartphone.

OnePlus 5 rumors

Latest rumors suggest that the OnePlus 5 may come equipped 16MP dual rear camera setup for enhanced low-light photography. Apart from that, the upgraded camera settings are also rumored to come with a number of modes, dedicated to performing specific functions.

Fans can expect camera modes like Blur and Portrait, similar to the one found in iPhone 7 Plus. They can keep their fingers crossed as rumors of a telephoto lens being integrated into the OnePlus 5 camera are also making rounds. In case the above-mentioned features do get incorporated in the upcoming OnePlus flagship, the smartphone will become a photographer’s delight.

Given that the device is an upgrade to the OnePlus 3T, the impending smartphone is hinted to come with a whopping 8GB of RAM, which is 2GB more than the previous gen model’s 6 GB of RAM capacity. It is also rumored that the upcoming handset will be available in 64GB and 128GB options and is expected to be unveiled in the next couple of months. In terms of display, tech enthusiasts can expect a 5.5-inch screen. However, it is unclear as of now whether the display would be an IPS or OLED one.
