Amazon Echo is a smart speaker developed by Amazon.com. It is hands-free and Voice controlled. Its smart assistant named Alexa uses voice commands to play music, send, receive messages, make calls, control smart home devices and a lot of other things.

Amazon Echo is said to have 12,000 skills which customers might find to be very useful in their homes. Due to its popularity, it has sold around 8.2 million units as per Tech.Co. It actually came as a surprise to Amazon since initially they only distributed Echo to the actual prime customer in the US.

But word of mouth spread rapidly, and demand for the product grew hugely as the years went by.

In an effort to be a premiere company delivering the Voice First Revolution, on May 9 Amazon.released a major upgrade to the Amazon Echo line. It is named Echo Show, the most costly on the platform and they will start shipping on June 28. Its dimensions are 7.4” x 7.4” x 3.5” (187 mm x 187 mm x 90 mm) with a weight of 41.0 oz. Other specifications also include Wifi and Bluetooth connectivity. The processor Intel Atom x5-Z8350 is delivering advanced technology and processing capabilities.

It also has dual 2-inch stereo speakers for a great audio experience. Included in the box are Echo Show, power adapter/cable (6 ft.), a Things to Try card, and a quick start guide.

Now let us go to its features. The device has the familiar Amazon Video Calling App while audio calling is more like intercom than a phone. As Amazon is the largest retailer in the world, the video calling service option of Echo Show is intended primarily for customer service, making it like a go-to store at home so consumers can make orders directly from it.

Echo Show’s display can also be used for streaming Amazon Prime Movies. After the Chime acquisition, it is now used in Echo Show, challenging current social networks due to its Audio and Video Snapchat-like system that will definitely attract the below 25 age group.

Go for Echo Show, no go for Nucleus

According to Nucleus founder and CEO Jonathan Frankel in an interview with Recode, his startup will continue — at least for now — selling its product on Amazon. He is also thinking about landing partnerships with retail competitors like Google, Walmart or Target because they have the resources.

A lot of social media networks, apps and voice first platforms will definitely be impacted by Amazon’s new release.

It may sound like great news for Amazon, but it is a bad new for Nucleus. After a $5.6 million investment for this start up, unfortunately, it has been cloned by Amazon for its Echo Show. Amazon is in denying this. What’s next for Nucleus?
