Sony's PlayStation 4 is one of the company's most successful products. While the company has been quiet about the next console iteration, several rumors predict that the Japanese electronics giant is already working on its development. With the impending release of Xbox Project Scorpio, gamers cannot help but anticipated that the next iteration will be released soon. However, one analyst has a more specific release date.
Release date predictions
According to a report published by the Wall Street Journal, Damian Thong, an analyst at Macquarie Capital Securities predicted that the PlayStation 5 will be released in the second half of 2018.
Although analysts' predictions is not always accurate, Thong is a different story. The guy is the same analyst who predicted accurately the PS4 Pro and Slim before they were launched, which obviously adds to the guy's credibility.
While Thong gave out the release date for the next generation of PlayStation console, the report, however, did not give out any information about its specifications and features. Announcing the release of an upcoming device like the PlayStation 5 has major upside and downside. On the positive side, it can lessen the hype for the imminent launching of the Xbox Project Scorpio. On the other hand, this could also hurt the company in terms of its sales with the PS4 and PS4 Pro.
It is worth noting that Sony's consoles have been outselling its competitors, and hinting on a new hardware might be too premature for the company.
Possible specs and features
Among the speculations hitting the web today about the next generation gaming console from Sony includes featuring 4K for games and videos. In addition, it is anticipated by some that the company will release two models for the console.
Aside from those, several reports claim that it will be released equipped with a support for Virtual Reality headset, and a physical Virtual Reality headset that will be available alongside its release. Moreover, the gaming console is expected to have 10+ teraflops of graphic processing unit that is way superior to the 6 teraflops feature of the Project Scorpio.
Furthermore, PlayStation 5 is anticipated to be offered at an approximately $500, similar to the speculated price of Microsoft's Xbox Project Scorpio.
These are all purely speculations and predictions about the next generation gaming console from Sony. Currently, the company has not released any information about this next console. In fact, it has not commented about this recent release date speculations.
