The next flagship device from Taiwanese electronics manufacturer is coming on May 16. HTC U, Ocean, or 11, the official name of the next HTC flagship device is still unconfirmed. The device has been christened with many names because of lack of information from the manufacturer. However, recently, several reports have confirmed that the flagship, after all, will be named HTC U.

Announcement

Today, the Taiwanese electronics companies took to Twitter their announcement of the device coming in May.

The short preview gave out the May 16 day at 2 PM Taiwan time, 2 AM New York Time and &7 AM London time. It has catchy tag lines, Squeeze for the brilliant U, along with a phone, which appears to have interactive or squeezable edges. The 5 seconds video about a new smartphone ended with the details about the date.

Speculated specs and features

For months, the upcoming flagship smartphone from the Taiwan maker’s specs, features, and even the name has been a hot topic on the Internet. Among the specs previously revealed about the device is that it would run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. In addition, it was also reported that it would sport a 12-megapixel rear camera and 16-megapixel front-facing camera.

It will reportedly have an Android Nougat 7.1 for its operating system.

Apart from those, the HTC U is said to have a 5.5-inch full QHD display. It will also have two variants, one with 6GB of RAM, and 128 GB of internal storage, allegedly to be released in China and a 4GB of RAM with 64GB internal storage for US market. It will also have a 3000 mAh battery pack and will drop the 3.5mm audio jack.

Edge Sense

The latest teaser from the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer boasts of the squeezable feature that the upcoming device will have. Previous leaks and speculations have explained in detail the concept behind this feature. Other leaks call this feature Sense Touch, this will enable users to squeeze the sides or the frame of the device to interact with it.

Several other claims that this is an added feature that will let users do the extra task while the phone is locked. This includes manipulating the phone by launching applications, or altering settings, and taking photos to name a few.

Most likely, it would be a customizable button or key which users can interact with through either long press or short press. Others suggest that the edges can be swiped and are context sensitive. As of today, all these are merely speculations about the upcoming Edge Sense feature of the HTC U. On May 16, surely, we will get to know what this feature is all about.
