In recent NBA news, the New Orleans Pelicans' Anthony Davis has been the hot topic in terms of possible trades. The Los Angeles Lakers have been linked to the NBA star for quite some time now. However, the Pelicans may look to deal their superstar to another team ahead of the February trade deadline. Below is the latest on Davis' preferred NBA destinations and the Los Angeles Lakers, as well as the Pelicans' stance on the matter.
Davis will play for team besides Lakers, with a catch
It's no secret that Anthony Davis is a hot commodity in the league.
The NBA star has gone on record as saying his legacy is more important than money. His legacy has looked good in terms of stats and achievements in New Orleans, minus a lot of playoff wins and a championship ring. On Monday, his agent Rich Paul announced that AD won't re-sign with the Pelicans and that he has requested a trade.
That doesn't necessarily mean he's interested in taking his talents to just any roster. though. For a long time, the top teams in the rumor mill have been the Los Angeles Lakers and their East Coast rivals, the Boston Celtics. Both of these teams seem to have enough assets to trade for Davis if the Pelicans jump at their offer.
Other teams could get involved, and Anthony Davis is reportedly fine playing for another team.
However, he won't stay there long. The latest update via ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe says that Davis would treat a move to any team besides the Lakers as a "one-year stop." That means he'd give his talents to that roster for about a season or so, before heading off in free agency to join the Lakers.
One has to wonder which teams are going to be interested in those specifics with an Anthony Davis trade, as they'd have to give a lot up to get him.
Pelicans and Lakers trade talk status
At first, it appeared the New Orleans Pelicans weren't going to budge with Davis for the Lakers. A recent report indicated that Pelicans General Manager Dell Demps hadn't returned the phone call from Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka. However, an update from "Woj" says that the Lakers and Pelicans execs finally connected.
They've spoken a bit about a deal and are expected to speak more next week.
The Lakers are prepared to go big with a deal to get Davis. There have been some trade ideas tossed around involving Anthony Davis to the Lakers already. One of those had FS1 personality and show host Nick Wright proposing a huge deal which would send a number of Lakers' players and picks to New Orleans. As seen in the video below, the Lakers would give up their young trio of stars, Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, and Brandon Ingram, along with picks.
"The Lakers want to keep Kentavious Caldwell-Pope on the books so if they trade for Anthony Davis, they have $30M in cap space this summer to offer up to Kyrie Irving or Kawhi Leonard or Klay Thompson."

One has to wonder how much Los Angeles is willing to give up in order to bring Anthony Davis on board with LeBron James.
Having those two players is a huge step toward competing against the likes of Golden State. However, those two players alone probably aren't enough to get the job done, even with mediocre talent surrounding them.
Giving up talented players like Ball, Kuzma, and Ingram, who would continue to emerge under LeBron's guidance, is a big deal for some fans. However, the Lakers' front office may think winning now is more important. After all, nobody knows how much longer LeBron's NBA career is going to last.
The saga will continue, as far as where Davis ends up as of the NBA's trade deadline. That arrives on February 7 at 3 PM ET.
