The Nebraska football team has hit an incredibly important time in its 2019 recruiting cycle. That period of time just got a little more crucial with the recent announcement of Daniel Heimuli. Heimuli took to Twitter on Saturday night to announce he will be cutting his list of schools he's considering down to five. The Cornhuskers are hoping beyond hope they are going to make that list.
Nebraska football appears to be in the running for highly touted defender
The Huskers are coming down the home stretch when it comes to their 2019 class. Last week saw Scott Frost and the coaching staff nail down one win and was also handed a loss.
4-star athlete Darien Chase picked the Cornhuskers over a myriad of offers including a final push from Mountain West power Boise State. Chase bumped Nebraska into the Top 25 recruiting classes in the country.
Frost and company also suffered a defeat of sorts on Friday night when wide receiver target Marcus Washington picked the Texas Longhorns. The Cornhuskers were in a group of the final four but couldn't quite do enough to overcome what the resurgent Big 12 team had to offer the Missouri native.
That loss could be mitigated this coming week with a number of potential recruiting wins. Perhaps the biggest target left on the board for the Nebraska football team is set to announce on Thursday afternoon.
Wandale Robinson is an all-purpose back that the Cornhuskers have managed to sway towards them according to numerous reports. One day before that announcement, defensive back Javin Wright will pick between the Huskers and UCLA. Now, Daniel Heimuli will be paring down his list. That final five is expected to be Oregon, Utah, Washington, Nebraska, and Alabama with one change or another somewhere along the way.
Daniel Heimuli still an uphill climb for Nebraska Cornhuskers
Even if the 4-star linebacker prospect does name the Huskers among his final five, it's going to be a battle. The Washington Huskies are considered the top team when it comes to landing the talented California prospect. 247Sports has him as the 6th best inside linebacker in the entire class.
He's the 29th best player in the state of California. Rivals has him as the 152nd best player in the entire class while 247 has him as 236th best in the class. In other words, he's easily one of the best around. If Nebraska football can stay in the running for Daniel Heimuli it would be a win. If they can make the Top 5 then anything can happen before signing day.
