The Nebraska Football team has its 2020 quarterback locked in. There is no reason to believe Logan Smothers isn't going to be a Husker once he's able to sign on the dotted line. That moment, when he can indeed sign his national letter of intent, is still a ways off since he’s a member of the 2020 class. Until that day, it seems as though Cornhusker fans are in for a bumpy ride.

Smothers is bound to get more attention than he's garnered so far. That was proven, on Thursday, when he received an official offer from the Louisville Cardinals.

Nebraska football has new competition

Logan Smothers committed to the Huskers just a week ago, as Husker Corner points out. He did so, continuing what has been a kind of epic hot streak in recruiting this summer for Nebraska. Smothers is considered a "solid commit" by 247Sports, but there's always going to be a few pangs of concern considering how long it is until Nebraska can lock him down.

The Alabama prospect camped with both Ohio State and the University of Alabama this summer.

The good news for Cornhuskers' fans is that neither one of those powerhouse schools made him an offer. Now that he's got one from Louisville, you have to wonder if he's going to start feeling as though he closed down his recruitment a bit too soon.

Louisville officially becomes the eighth school to offer Smothers but the ACC school is just the second Power 5 program. The Huskers were the first. He also boasts offers from several schools that are located in his home region in Troy, UAB, Austin Peay, South Alabama, Tennessee Tech and Southern Mississippi.

Smothers setting the tone for 2020 recruiting by the Cornhuskers

Not only is Logan the first official commit for the Nebraska football team for the 2020 class, but he might end up being one of the top quarterbacks in the entire class.

At the moment, 247Sports has him ranked as the 12th ranked dual-threat quarterback and the 20th best player in the state of Alabama.

Both of those rankings could improve if the speedy thrower can log another solid season as a senior. Those numbers could also continue to tick up if he keeps getting official offers from some of the best schools in the country. I'm sure it will be pointed out to the quarterback that Louisville just managed to produce a Heisman winner who is giving the NFL a go in Lamar Jackson. The Nebraska football team will likely need to hold onto Smothers by the fingernails before it's all said and done.
