Cody Bollinger propels Dodgers past Phillies 5-4

On Thursday afternoon, the Los Angeles Dodgers received a big RBI from their rookie star. Despite the fact that Cody Bellinger was thrown out after hitting a pitch, a man on base was still able to score. That came after a huge home Run earlier in the inning. When all was said and done, the L.A. Dodgers came away with a 5-4 win in Philadelphia. In today's game, the Los Angeles Dodgers jumped out to a 1-0 start in the first inning thanks to Yasiel Puig's sacrifice fly which scored Chris Taylor. L.A. tacked on another run in the second inning when Curtis Granderson reached base on a throwing error as Cody Bellinger scored. However, the Phillies answered right back in the bottom of the third behind a Nick Williams two-run home run making it 2-2.

The Philadelphia Phillies extended their lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning. That's when Rhys Hoskins smacked a double to left center scoring both Cesar Hernandez and Freddy Galvis.

The team would keep that lead going until the sixth when Curtis Granderson knocked out his 25th home run of the season to get the Dodgers within a run.

An inning later saw the L.A. Dodgers take over the game for good. Andre Either hit a 377-foot home run to left field to tie things up. Taylor reached third base on his triple. Several batters later, Cody Bellinger came to the plate. While he grounded out to first base, Taylor managed to get to home, putting Los Angeles up 5-4. It would stay that way for the remainder of the game as the pitching staff helped keep the Phillies at bay.

Picking up the win today was Walker Buehler, while Kenley Jansen earned the save for the Dodgers. Phillies pitcher Ricardo Pinto was on the receiving end of the loss for his season record.

Today's win helped the Los Angeles Dodgers clinch at least a tie for the NL West division lead. The team is now 97-56 overall with a 45-33 record on the road. On Friday, the Dodgers are back home as they host the San Francisco Giants. Game time is scheduled for 10:10 p.m. Eastern Time with Rich Hill getting the start for Los Angeles.

At 61-92 overall, the Philadelphia Phillies won't qualify for the playoffs this current season. They'll try to bounce back after today's loss when they visit the Atlanta Braves at 7:35 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday night. Ben Lively will be on the mound for the Phillies.
