It has been a long time since the Dallas Mavericks had won the NBA Championship. And ever since their last Finals appearance, they have been on four out of six NBA post-seasons. Although all of their playoff appearances have been all first-round exits, the Dallas Mavericks has made some good moves to help bring them back to basketball prominence.
After missing on Deandre Jordan on the 2015 offseason, the Dallas Mavericks has been playing catch-up and so far has made some few good strides.
Dallas' 2016-2017 season
In the 2016-2017 NBA season, the Dallas Mavericks was led by the legendary Dirk Nowitzki who is entering his 19th season in the NBA. They also got Harrison Barnes whom they signed to a $95 million over four years contract in the 2016 Free Agency.
Dallas finished with a 33-49 record last season where they finished 11th in the NBA Western Conference. But there have been a few bright lights in Dallas' season.
The emergence of their dynamic six-foot Point Guard Yogi Ferell, who was also a member of the 2016-2017 NBA All-Rookie Second Team is one of the main highlights in Dallas' 2016-2017 season.
Ferell averaged 11.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.2 blocks per game with Dallas in the past season.
Seth Curry has also been phenomenal this past season, producing his best season in the NBA yet. He averaged 12.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game with Dallas last season.
They have also signed some major defensive and role players like Andrew Bugot, a one time champion with the Golden State Warriors, Quincy Acy, Wesley Matthews, Dwight Powell, and JJ Barea.
Dallas re-signing Nerlens Noel
The Dallas Mavericks have officially re-resigned Power Forward Nerlens Noel to a $4.1 million one-year deal. Nerlens Noel turned down a huge $70 million over the next four years offered by the Mavericks early in the contract negotiations.
Nerlens Noel was acquired by the Dallas Mavericks from the Philadelphia Sixers at the end of last seasons' NBA Trade Deadline.
Nerlens Noel has had a stellar season with the Mavericks last season averaging 8.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. Nerlens has always been a pretty one-sided player, but his defensive prowess has earned him a spot in one of the NBA's most excellent organizations.
Lastly, a lot of people have been jabbing at Nerlens Noel for making the wrong decision of turning down a sure thing. Jimmy Butler also did the same thing, and it has worked out well for him before. Do you think the same thing will happen with Nerlens Noel?
