This week's Wwe Smackdown Live episode started with Kevin Owens in the ring as the new United States Champion. He was soon interrupted by AJ Styles who came in asking for a rematch but before they could proceed further, both of them were interrupted by the return of Chris Jericho. Jericho came to the ring asking for his rematch for the United States Championship. He even introduced AJ Styles in The List of Jericho. While all this was happening, Kevin Owens made his way out of the ring but before he could make his exit, Shane McMahon came out. He ensured both Styles and Jericho of their rematches for the US Championship and announced a triple threat match as the main event.
There was a Battleground rematch between Shinsuke Nakamura and Baron Corbin. Corbin could not escape the situation this time and was defeated by Shinsuke Nakamura. After this, there was a backstage confrontation between WWE Smackdown women's champion Naomi and the new number one contender Natalya and just after that the women Money in the bank winner Carmela came and threatened Naomi for her championship.
Women's division tag team match
Charlotte and Becky Lynch joined hands as they were in a tag team action against the team of Lana and Tamina. The team of Charlotte and Becky emerged victorious at the end.
Following this was the appearance of the WWE Champion Jinder Mahal who came to the ring demanding a new opponent at Summerslam.
John Cena answered his call and challenged him for the WWE championship at Summerslam. After that, they both were interrupted by Smackdown Live's General Manager Daniel Bryan. Daniel fixed a number one contender match for the WWE championship in which John Cena will be facing Shinsuke Nakamura next week with the winner going on to face Jinder Mahal at Summerslam.
Sami Zayn and Tye Dillinger teamed up to face Aiden English and Mike Kanellis in a tag team match. Sami and Tye came out victorious of that match. After that, The New Day were supposed to make their entry to the ring but they were attacked on the entrance stage by The Usos. The Usos took their revenge on them as they lost their titles to The New Day at Battleground.
The main event
As decided by Shane McMahon, Jericho, Styles and Owens participated in a triple threat match for the United States Championship. A new champion was crowned in the match as AJ Styles took back his championship. Kevin Owens was frustrated due to this and demanded his rematch next week.
