WWE recently announced that they will be holding a special tournament called the "Mae Young Classic" which will feature women's wrestling talents from around the world. The tournament will be similar to the Cruiserweight Classic and UK tournaments that were featured exclusively on WWE Network. In another recent announcement, it was learned that Jim "J.R." Ross will make his return to serve as a commentator for the tournament. Now there are new WWE rumors that a former women's champion will join him on commentary.
Special commentator?
The rumors according to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter are that WWE will bring in Amy "Lita" Dumas to be a part of the commentary team.
If she comes on board, she'll work alongside Jim Ross to call the various matches features women's wrestling talents that a good number of WWE fans may not be familiar with.
Lita has worked as an on-air analyst with WWE over the past year, as she's been a part of the pre-show panel for pay-per-view events. Both she and Jerry Lawler were taken off television programming as of December of last year. However, Lita did make a return during the "WrestleMania 33" pre-show this past April. At more recent events, WWE went with Renee Young and an on-air radio personality who is familiar with WWE such as Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg or Sam Roberts.
The 42-year-old Amy Dumas was a four-time WWE/F Women's Champion during her legendary career.
Her most notable feuds were of course with another legend, Trish Stratus. Lita is also well-known for being a ringside valet/manager for WWE superstars including Eddie Guerrero and Edge.
When is the tournament?
