As we roll on to the third day of the NBA offseason, the teams are alive as ever making offers, moves, and discussing deals with other teams. The West is collecting East All-Stars the East teams are struggling to retain and land big names in this year's offseason. Here are a few more updates on the NBA free agency scene:
Clippers halts rebuild with Griffin
A few days ago the Los Angeles Clippers lost their franchise player and probably one of the best point guards in the NBA in Chris Paul.
With CP3's departure, rumors started to swirl that Blake Griffin's future in Los Angeles was looking pretty questionable. Especially since Chris Paul has already made his exit. Fortunately, Blake Griffin decided to stay and take on the challenge of being the sole franchise player of the Los Angeles Clippers. As reported by Shams Charania of The Vertical, Blake signed a 173 million dollar contract for 5 years with the Los Angeles Clippers. This move likely stops the rebuilding process for the Clippers who are still a force in the west with Jordan, Griffin, Crawford in their lineup. Griffin has been plagued with injury the last couple of seasons but the Clippers still made it a big priority for them to re-sign him.
Griffin is a five-time NBA All-Star and a former Rookie of the Year awardee in 2011, he has averaged 21.5 points, one steal, 4.1 assists and 9.4 rebounds while shooting 51.8% from the field in his seven seasons in Los Angeles.
Porter and Wizards can't reach a deal
Otto Porter and the Washington Wizards are taking their time in finalizing a deal, this could create some problems for the Wizards with other teams interested in Otto Porter. Chris Haynes, of ESPN, has reported that the Sacramento Kings are offering the 24-year-old forward to a four year 106 million dollar max contract. Mark Stein also reported that the Brooklyn Nets are about to make a lucrative offer to either Otto Porter and Caldwell-Pope, Keith Smith of RealGM also hinted that the Sixers could also join the Otto Porter hunt this offseason but it is still all speculation for now.
The Washington Wizards have the right to match any offer sheet on the table but as the offers from other NBA teams rise it could mean trouble for the Washington Wizards financial flexibility.
Waiters to meet with Magic and the Lakers
With the Miami Heat pursuing Gordon Hayward this offseason, re-signing Dion Waiters could still be on hold depending on Hayward's decision. This means that there is a great opportunity for other NBA teams to sneak and steal Waiters away from the Heat after having an incredible season. Michael Scotto of Basketball Insider has reported that the Lakers and Dion Waiters camp have agreed to meet. No other information or rumors are available as of the moment is available and we will have to wait for any other news on Dion Waiters.
