The Cleveland Cavaliers are yet to make a big move this offseason. After losing to the Golden State Warriors in this year's NBA Finals, the Cavaliers obviously need to make some changes if they want to compete for the title next season as well. Earlier this month they parted ways with their general manager - David Griffin, and the summer didn't start the way Cavs fans wanted it.
There were many talks and rumors around the league about Cavaliers potentially acquiring Paul George from the Indiana Pacers, but that's not going to happen after all. On Friday night Paul George was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, and it seems like the Cavs are looking to sign some other quality players that might help them next season. Earlier this week it was reported that the Cavaliers are interested in signing Patrick Beverley, and it appears now that they have their eye on Zach Randolph as well.
Randolph teaming up with LeBron?
Zach Randolph is a 16-year NBA veteran, drafted as the 19th overall pick back in the 2001 NBA draft.
He spent the last eight seasons of his career playing for the Memphis Grizzlies, and last season he averaged 14.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game with the Grizzlies. Even though he will turn 36 on July the 16th, Randolph is still considered as one of the better rebounders and low-post scorers in the league. Randolph will be a free agent as of July 1st, and there are many teams that would like to acquire his services for the next season. According to TNT's David Aldridge, the Cleveland Cavaliers are among the teams that are showing a strong interest for "Z-Bo".
The Sacramento Kings and the Los Angeles Clippers are also looking to sign Randolph this summer, and it's going to be interesting to see if the Cavaliers can win the battle for the former two-time All-star.
The Cavs and Randolph are expected to communicate by phone on Saturday since "Z-Bo" is already in Los Angeles.
'Z-Bo' looking for his first championship
While the defending Eastern Conference Champions already have two great big men on their roster, Randolph would help their rebounding and bench stability. Also, playing alongside LeBron James is something almost every NBA player would want to experience, and Zach is no exception. Joining the Cavaliers would give him the best chance of winning his first NBA championship since he's already in the twilight of his career. Randolph has had some good playoff runs with the Grizzlies over the past few years, and no doubt it would be a "win-win" situation for him and the Cavs as well if he decides to continue his career in Cleveland.
