On Wednesday, June 7th, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road 118-113. The win will allow fans to take advantage of the deal Taco Bell has had with the NBA since last year's NBA Finals. If a road team steals a win, fans will be able to enjoy a free taco courtesy of Taco Bell.
In last year's NBA Finals, the road team was able to steal a win three times during the series. However, the Warriors struck first when they stole Game 3 on the road in Cleveland. So far in this year's finals, the Warriors have won the only road game steal in the series thus far.
With the Cavs facing a 3-1 deficit, Monday night, fans will find out if they can enjoy more free taco privileges soon.
What granted the award
The Cleveland Cavaliers had the game under control for most of the second half of Game 3 at home before the Warriors pulled off the unthinkable. In the final three minutes of the game, the Cavs could not score the basketball. So, Kevin Durant took it upon himself to help out all the Taco Bell fans.
With 45.3 seconds remaining in the game, after Kyle Korver missed a three-point attempt in the corner on the other end, Durant ran down the floor, pulled up and knocked down a three that put the Warriors ahead by one. After they took the lead, they never looked back.
"Warriors fans--and taco enthusiasts--were undoubtedly at the edge of their seats throughout the game, hoping that the Warriors would come out with a win. And when they finally did, many took to social media after the game to express their sheer joy... for some free food." (courtesy of FOX NEWS).
When can fans get the tacos, and what kind are they?
This coming Tuesday, June 13th, between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., fans will be able to stop into any Taco Bell and receive their free taco. The promotion is actually titled "Steal a Game, Steal a Taco." Fans can enjoy any one of Taco Bell's famous Doritos Locos Tacos. So, even if you're not an NBA fan, you still will be able to benefit from the promotion.
According to Refinery29, "last year, all of America got a free taco after The Golden State Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 4. And if basketball isn't your thing, free tacos aren't totally out of reach: Taco Bell previously teamed up with Major League Baseball for the Steal a Base, Steal a Taco promotion, which offered up free tacos during the 2007, 2008, 2012, 2015 and 2016 World Series."
But for now, fans will get to enjoy their free taco this coming Tuesday. If the road team can win another game, free tacos will be enjoyed the following week on June 20.
