The Nebraska football team has had some ups and downs this weekend. The school lost the commitment of one of its best and fastest wide receivers on Saturday night. They also went hard after a linebacker from the same state as Cameron Brown.

Nebraska made an offer to Missouri outside linebacker Shammond Cooper, a player many feel will be right at the top of the recruiting lists for the next couple of years.

Cooper is a member of a vaunted 2019 class that is coming out of the show me state who has more than 20 offers from some of the best schools in the country.

Nebraska not slowing down

Mike Riley and company are all veterans in the college football world. This means the Nebraska coaching staff isn’t going to get derailed because of one decommittment. Cameron Brown might be slipping through their fingers but that just gives them more time to focus on other players.

Among those other players are kids like Shammond Cooper who Nebraska has made an offer to this weekend. Cooper announced the scholarship on his official Twitter account.

While the Huskers are far from the only team to make an offer, they are one of the most recent schools on that list.

Cooper is projected to be among the best players in the state of Missouri when it comes to the 2019 class. He is also considered to be one of the best outside linebackers in the country. Nebraska continues to try and get the best players out of the neighboring state

Nebraska has a lot of competition

The Huskers are one of about 25 schools that are going hard after Cooper. At the moment, 247Sports has predicted Notre Dame is the front runner. Nebraska can take solace in the fact they have managed to beat the Fighting Irish out on a fairly regular basis.

There are plenty of Big Ten teams vying for Cooper as well.

Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Ohio State are joining Nebraska as schools looking for the linebacker. There are plenty of new SEC schools and former Husker rivals going after Cooper as well.

Nebraska does get to be hold the honor of being the team that offered him last though it’s not clear how much weight that’s going to carry. Cooper hasn’t come close to saying when he’s going to commit.

Nebraska has been good about putting the full court press on players. Oddly enough, they haven’t yet had a ton of success with the next class.

While they are in or near the top 10 recruiting rankings for most sites, Nebraska hasn’t made a dent yet for the next class. That’s surprising if only because of how close to full their 2018 class is already.
