With the NBA Draft 2017 on Thursday night, there's no shortage of NBA Draft rumors. One of the latest to pop up involves a potential trade of DeAndre Jordan by the Los Angeles Clippers. Reportedly, the Clippers were offering the All-Star big man to the Phoenix Suns. In exchange, Phoenix would give up Tyson Chandler and the No. 4 pick in the NBA Draft. So far it seems like the deal is not going to happen, but these trade rumors could indicate that the Clippers are trying to build a better roster for Chris Paul or are simply rebuilding.
Trade details
Earlier on Wednesday, ESPN's Chris Haynes reported that the Clippers were gauging the market value for DeAndre Jordan. It was mentioned that Los Angeles spoke to a few teams that might be interested in their All-Star big man and that the Phoenix Suns were among them.
While the Los Angeles Clippers wanted veteran center Tyson Chandler and the No. 4 pick, it appears that the Phoenix Suns didn't pounce on the deal. Most NBA mock drafts just a day or so ahead of the event have indicated that Phoenix intends to draft Josh Jackson from Kansas with the pick. However, there could also be potential for Phoenix to draft a new guard such as Kentucky's De'Aaron Fox or Malik Monk with the pick.
Big 3 break up?
Based on a lot of recent NBA trade rumors/free agency speculation, it makes sense that Los Angeles could be trying to reconstruct their roster. Its been mentioned that Chris Paul was interested in the San Antonio Spurs, and would also talk to the Denver Nuggets and Houston Rockets. There's also the matter of Blake Griffin, who becomes a free agent after this season. There have been a handful of possible destinations for Blake to go to, including the Miami Heat or Boston Celtics.
The Clippers suffered another disappointing season this past NBA campaign. While the team qualified for the NBA Playoffs as the No. 4 seed, they fell in the first round to the Utah Jazz in seven games.
Part of that was due to another postseason injury, as Blake Griffin was lost early in the series due to a foot injury. Chris Paul and his teammates were able to contend a bit but didn't have enough to overtake an up and coming Utah Jazz roster.
DeAndre Jordan has spent nine years in the league and averaged a double-double with 12.7 points and 13.8 rebounds per game. However, his 48.2 percent free throw shooting rate has made him a liability late in games as teams employ a "Hack-a-Jordan" type strategy to send him to the line.
