Russell Westbrook is having one of best seasons in NBA history and last night, he tied Oscar Robertson for most triple-doubles in a season. Westbrook achieved his 41st triple-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists in a blowout win over the Milwaukee Bucks, making the history.
From the statistical perspective, Westbrook's amazing season is probably the best individual season in the modern NBA. What he's doing this season is beyond impressive, and he will always be remembered as one of the most athletic players to ever play in the league.
Russell Westbrook is averaging a triple-double
Westbrook hasn't missed a single game this season and he's averaging a triple-double with 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists per game. He is the best scorer in the league by a large margin and he also ranks second in assists per game. When it comes to rebounding, he ranks tenth among all players and he is far ahead of other guards in this category.
With five games left in the season, Russell Westbrook will have to average 5 points and 4 assists per game in order to average a 30-10-10 triple-double and become the first player since Oscar Robertson to achieve this amazing feat. Robertson averaged a triple-double in 1962, and Westbrook is on pace to become the first player to do it in the modern NBA.
Westbrook should win MVP award
Beside doing something that hasn't been done for over 50 years, Russell Westbrook is also leading his team to one of the best records in the league. Even though the Oklahoma City Thunder are the sixth seed in the West, they have been incredible this season and could potentially pull a first-round upset in the playoffs.
Without Westbrook, the Thunder would be one of the worst teams in the NBA as he is doing a little bit of everything to help them win games. With their point guard on the floor, the Thunder have outscored their opponents by 3.4 points on average, and they were outscored by 2.3 points when he was on the bench. There is no doubt that Russell Westbrook is the most valuable player this season and he should be rewarded with the prestigious MVP award.
