Russell Westbrook is averaging a triple-double this season and he is one of the best players in the entire NBA. Westbrook is single-handedly leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to one of the best records in the West, while he is making history. With 31.2 points, 10.5 rebounds and 10.4 assists per game, this 28-year old guard is on pace to average a triple-double in a season, something that was achieved only once before.

A historic season

Last night, Westbrook recorded a perfect triple-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists. The guard shot 100 percent from the field and the free throw line, as he converted all six of his field goal attempts and he also went 6-of-6 on foul shots.

The Thunder ran over their opponent, Philadelphia 76ers, as they won the game by 25 points.

No other player in the history of the league has achieved what Russell Westbrook did last night. He did it all as he helped his team win a valuable game and he stayed perfect in 28 minutes of action, not missing a single shot. This was one of the most amazing performances of Westbrook's career and it will undoubtedly bolster his MVP case.

Will Westbrook be named MVP?

Even though he is doing something historic and record-breaking, the superstar point guard might not be this year's NBA MVP. The competition is simply too good and beside him, James Harden, LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard are all MVP candidates, and their teams have better records than the Thunder.

While it's true that Westbrook's triple-double games help his team tremendously as the Thunder are 29-6 in those games, a lot of MVP voters will look at overall team record and that is what will hurt Westbrook's chances of winning this prestigious award.

Oklahoma City Thunder and Russell Westbrook have 11 games to play in the regular season, and a lot of things can change during this period.

If Westbrook keeps playing well and leads his team to the fourth seed in the conference, his chances of winning MVP award will drastically increase and he might become the first MVP who averaged triple-double for the entire season.
