If you've been sleeping under a rock the entire NBA season, Russell Westbrook is on the verge of having the most triple-doubles in a season in NBA history. He is currently tied with Oscar Robertson, set the record in the 1961-62 season with the Cincinnati Royals. Westbrook has his shot at obtaining the record, as his team is going against the Suns, who are one of the worst teams in the NBA this season.

Russell Westbrook was close to breaking the record in his last game but was one rebound short. Russell has made it known he isn't concerned with the record, but he knows he is one the verge of history. So will he go for it the history tonight, or give the cliché that it's just "another game?"

What a season to be alive

Russell Westbrook's season has been one of the greatest ever, and many people have seconded that statement. Westbrook is not only on the verge of breaking a record that hasn't been broken in over 50 years, and he is carrying Thunder team that would be at the bottom of the western conference if he wasn't there.

He leads the league in PPG with 31, he's third in assist, and ranks tenth in rebounds per game. He has the Thunder sitting at the six spot in the Western Conference and already clinched a playoff spot. Not to mention, this is the season after Kevin Durant decided to leave for Golden State and many rode the Thunder off and blamed Westbrook for Durant's departure.

Westbrook has received praise from many coaches and players, past and present about his historic season. He even got Oscar Robertson's blessing to break his triple-double record. With the season he is having, he is at the top of the MVP discussion. It would seem foolish if he didn't receive the award, as we might never see a season like this again.

Westbrook has single handedly kept a team afloat, and if that doesn't scream MVP, I'm not sure what does.

Friday night lights

The Phoenix fans just had the NCAA Final Four in their city, and now they might have the luxury of seeing a new triple-double king crowned in their arena. The Suns fans haven't had much to cheer about this season, as they are 22-57 on the season and looking to building the draft. Russell Westbrook has been good with the fans from other teams, as he has gotten MVP chants from opposing fans playing in their building. Westbrook missed a triple-double the last time he faced the Suns but has two on them for the season. Westbrook has virtually locked up averaging a triple-double for the season, joining Robertson as the only person to do that.

Westbrook is hoping to make history tonight, being crowned the new triple-double king. He will have the perfect opportunity, facing the Suns who are just awful this season. Westbrook's historical season hopes to reach a climax, finally getting the triple-double record that has been the highlight of the NBA season. The game will be on NBATV at 10:00 pm EST.
