The pitch had a trace of green and offered some help to the seamers. Murli Vijay took some time to adjust to the pace and bounce of the pitch and prodded on cautiously. After surviving the first hour of the game, he went to play his natural game and added 178 runs with Cheteshwar Pujara.

Vijay made full use of life he got in the 16th over and after the departure of Pujara remained stoically to complete another century stand with his skipper. Vijay played 160 balls for his score of 108 which was studded with 12 boundaries and a six.
