Each episode of “Legends of Tomorrow” is a little zanier than the last with the Legends facing various difficulties from a government conspiracy, to demons, to relationships since the show returned. They've dealt with a truth bug that had the Legends unable to lie while escaping Hank and the Bureau via an RV and Nate's recent loss of his father whose intentions may not have been as evil as he thought. Then there's John Constantine's discovery that Neron has taken on the appearance of his boyfriend, and Ava and Sara's conflict over differing opinions.
Ray and Nora's relationship seemed to be heating up in last week's musical moment while the episode saw Nate and Zari continue to sidestep a possible connection between them. Plus, newest Legend, Mona continues to grieve over the loss of Konane. Season four stars Caity Lotz, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Tala Ashe, Brandon Routh, Nick Zano, Dominic Purcell, Matt Ryan, Ramona Young, Jes Macallan, and Courtney Ford.
Sara attempts to save Ava
Monday's episode “The Eggplant, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” finds the Legends having to face rising darkness in 2019 while Sara (Caity Lotz) fights to save Ava (Jes Macallan), and Constantine (Matt Ryan) teams up with Nora to take down a demon. The episode will also focus on Ava battling her own demons and Zari dealing with advice from Charlie, Mona (Ramona Young), and Rory.
The promo teases Sara trying to save Ava with a little help from Constantine. While Sara seems fairly confident she can handle Ava's purgatory, it doesn't appear to be that easy as Ava's trapped in a place with an appearance of a store with a bunch of Ava clones and ends with Sara warning Ava if she checks out she'll die.
Next week's “Legends of Tomorrow” will deal with Ray's concerns for Nora (Courtney Ford) and a problem that will push Ray (Brandon Routh) to do the unthinkable.
Meanwhile, Sara sends Nate (Nick Zano) and Zari (Tala Ashe) out on a mission to help them deal with the awkwardness.
The episode also finds Charlie (Maise Richardson-Sellers) and Rory (Dominic Purcell) receiving an offer with the potential to up-end their lives. The episode airs April 29. The episode “Nip/Stuck” finds Rory stepping in to make a tough decision when Sara can't which will create a wedge between the Legends.
At the Bureau, Ava hands over performance reviews to Gary. The episode airs May 6.
Nora's possible return to darkness
The Bollywood musical number is a major moment for Zari moving forward which sees her opening up to the idea of love and romance, something she's kept to the side. Until now, she's primarily focused on the need to change the future, save her family, and then eventually as a Legend, to save history. This big musical moment will create a change in her which Tala Ashe teases to EW that Zari will be grappling with being open to love in a big way.
Showrunner Phil Klemmer shares with EW that this episode has changed Zari in a way similar to how the time loop has changed her. The Zari-centric episode where she found herself stuck in a time loop saw her grow closer to her teammates and ended up cementing a bond between her and them.
Ashe adds that despite the growth she has through the Bollywood number, Zari will have some pushback which will continue throughout the remaining episodes.
The romance between Nora and Ray has been sweet with the two exchanging letters while Nora's been in prison at the Bureau, but with her escape, the two are getting time alone. Though things between them seem to be heating up, it doesn't mean the two won't face a dark road ahead. Phil Klemmer shares with TV Guide uncertainty about whether the two could make it as a couple and reminded fans about their crazy different backgrounds. Ray is the ATOM, probably the most moral of the Legends, and is often described as a boy scout while Nora is the daughter of Damien Darhk and was a vessel for a demon.
Nora's journey this season has been about her path to redemption with Ray being supportive and acting as the one who believes in her being good.
The showrunner shares with TV Guide his thoughts on the idea of a possible relationship between Nora and Constantine, stating the two would make a hot couple but the likelihood seems slim given where the two are at in their lives. The two will be spending time together as they team up in upcoming episodes with Nora getting a look at Constantine's world which will serve as a reminder for the burdens she still carries from her life which includes being a demon's vessel, being Damien Darhk's daughter, spending her childhood in an insane asylum, and being part of a death cult.
Phil Klemmer adds that Nora has a pretty good cliffhanger setting up where her character may be going next season and describes it as being unexpected. Nora faces the possibility of going back to the dark side with Klemmer hinting at Legends breaking bad this season, even sharing that a Legend may be teaming up with a familiar bad guy and returning faces may stop by for an adventure. Even with just a handful of episodes left, anything could happen and everything could change for the characters.
