With "Game of Thrones" season 8 being only a few months away from its premiere, new theories are starting to emerge on how it's all going to end. In one of the previous articles, I talked about the possibility of people who were burned to death coming back to life to fight against the Night King's army.
Now, let's tackle the new Reddit theory that suggests that there will be a peace treaty between the living and the dead that will require a few sacrifices on the heroes' side. The theory also offers a new perspective on what ended the first Long Night, so without further ado, let's get into all the details.
The story of the Night's King and the broken peace treaty
According to Reddit user u/angrysciencebean, the First men and the Children of the Forest never defeated the White Walkers (called The Others in the books.) Instead, they all signed a peace treaty that required the construction of the giant Wall that would separate the two territories. The White Walkers would help build that Wall with their ice magic, but the humans had to promise that every few generations a Stark man will lead the Night's Watch, marry a female Other, and give his children to the White Walkers. But humans eventually broke that treaty which leads us to the story of the Night's King.
If you are not familiar with this story, the Night's King (not to be confused with the show's Night King) was the 13th Lord Commander of the Night's Watch who fell in love with a female Other.
He then brought her back to the Nightfort and proclaimed himself a king and her a queen. During their 13-year reign, they were making constant sacrifices to the Others until they were eventually brought down by the joined forces of Brandon the Breaker, the King of Winter at the time, and Joramun, the King-Beyond-the-Wall. After that, all records of the 13th Lord Commander were destroyed and his name was forbidden and eventually forgotten.
Game of Thrones season 8 endgame predictions
According to this theory, the upcoming war against the White Walkers will end the same way the first one did. And it will fall to Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen to renew the peace treaty. Daenerys would be turned into a White Walker and Jon Snow would resume his post at the Wall.
As u/angrysciencebean explains, this would parallel the story of the Night's King, but it would also renew the treaty with the White Walkers and restore the balance to the world. Jon Snow would be ice and fire, and Daenerys Targaryen now a White Walker would be fire and ice. She'd be dead, he'd be alive. A perfect balance.
"Game of Thrones" season 8 is set to return in April 2019.
