Last week spoilers for "The Young and the Restless" announced that Eric Braden is taking a one-month hiatus from the show. Soap Hub suggests that all the recent problems the Newman family have been dealing with have caused their patriarch to decide to head for the hills and vanish. His half-brother Matthew is supposed to be coming to town, Jack is trying to prove he is also their sibling, and the J.T. issue is all looming with no closure. Pau Williams and detective Rey are questioning his family members and his rift with Nick has not been healed.
The big question, however, is whether or not Eric Braden will return in 30 days or is Victor gone for good.
Eric Braden's leave may or may not be temporary
In past interviews with Soap Opera Digest and other media, Eric Braden has emphasized that he will not retire because once you stop working, you die. This would seem to suggest that he is indeed only taking a break from the role he has played for several decades. The circumstances of his departure, however, should send up a red flag, Braden went on social media to complain that he did not like recent changes on the show and the fact that Doug Davidson who portrays Paul was let go after 40 years. If indeed the soap veteran is fed up with the goings on at "The Young and the Restless" it's possible Victor's departure may not be temporary.
In addition to the exit of Davidson, "Y&R" is changing history by having Jack and Victor possibly be brothers. There is also the fact that the writers had Victor and Nikki in an open relationship much to the shock of many longtime viewers. Nick Newman has been turned into a carbon copy of his father and even went so far as to impersonate J.T.
to get at his dad. There is also the far-fetched storyline where Victor is out of the loop and unaware that his wife, daughter and two former daughter's in law hid J.T.'s dead body.
Victor is needed in Genoa City
Spoilers don't give details as to why Victor will suddenly vanish from Genoa City. His character has already dealt with amnesia and being separated from his family several times over the years.
As the one-month absence was at Eric Braden's request the "Y&R" writers will have to scramble to come up with a realistic reason that he would leave his family at such a crucial time. One thing that is certain is that Victor Newman is needed in Genoa City.
Be on the lookout for spoilers to update what's going on with Victor and to keep fans in the know regarding Eric Braden's next move. Make sure you don't miss an episode of "The Young and the Restless" by tuning in weekday afternoons at 12:30 PM EST on CBS. Things are about to become very interesting in Genoa City, especially if Jack and "the mustache" are brothers.
