Fans of "The Young and the Restless" have noticed the lack of screen time for veteran actor Doug Davidson for several years. His character Paul Williams basically shows up to investigate crimes and is not seen again until the next mystery needs to be solved. Spoilers say the irate actor recently spoke out on social media, sharing his hurt and pain over how he has been treated on the show he has called home for 40 years.

Davidson complained about his diminished airtime, the direction the show is headed, how the writers have changed the histories of characters, and how they disrespect longtime viewers who have been so loyal to the show.

Davidson is distraught over how he has been treated

According to Celeb Dirty Laundry, Doug Davidson took to Twitter, where he spoke about being eased out of the show. When asked by followers the veteran actor implied that he was fired from "The Young and the Restless" but nothing was confirmed. In recent episodes, his name has been mentioned but neither he nor his police office has been shown for a while.

Last week Paul's wife Christine was in Genoa City for a brief moment when Lily was sentenced for causing the wreck that killed Hilary.

Some may have assumed that Doug Davidson chose to work without a contract (as did his TV wife Laurie Lee Bell), but that does not seem to be the case. Longtime viewers will be shocked and disappointed to hear that Davidson said he wants to keep working on the show, but the writers are not giving him screen time. CDL says that when one Twitter follower suggested he take his beloved character to "Days of Our Lives," Williams said his heart and soul are at "Y&R."

Paul's new lead detective may take in Genoa City

Doug Davidson gave no last air date for his character but CDL indicates that he will appear this week.

He will have to deal with a new renegade lead detective he recently hired. Arturo's brother Rey was summoned to Genoa City to assist Paul by looking at the J.T. Hellstrom situation from an outside perspective. Spoilers say this week Rey will make the unwise move of arresting Nick for using J.T.'s credit cards during the Dark Horse launch.

Paul will take Rey to task and explain that he could have handled the situation without such public embarrassment. Spoiler alerts from CDL and Soaps She Knows say that Rey and Arturo's sister Lola will arrive in Genoa City this week. It's possible that this new family has been brought in to give them roots, and Rey may possibly replace Davidson's character.

"The Young and the Restless" airs weekday afternoons at 12:30PM EST on CBS.
