Last Tuesday (August 7), Travis Scott released his third studio album, "Astroworld," and it has already surged up the charts. The new project was inspired by the tearing down of the Six Flags Astroworld theme park in Houston, Texas, where Scott is from. The hip-hop star will try to bring back the fun of the theme park experience with a full-fledged "Astroworld" festival scheduled for November in the area.
Travis wants to bring the fun back
For months, Travis Scott and Kylie Jenner have been occupied with their baby Stormi and other projects. As XXL reported, Travis and Kylie rented out the Six Flags Magic Mountain theme park in Valencia, California this past April.
The occasion was a celebration of Scott's birthday. Just recently, Scott was on hand for Kylie's 21st and fittingly, "Astroworld" was part of the party background music. Now he's going to combine those two themes for a music festival.
Scott previously told British GQ, in 2017, about his new album being based on the torn down theme park he wanted back. Scott said, "That’s what [the music is] going to sound like, like taking an amusement park away from kids. We want it back. We want the building back. That’s why I’m doing it. It took the fun out of the city."
The result of that concept is "Astroworld," an album which features 17 tracks and guests including Drake, Nav, and Frank Ocean. The album was on top of the iTunes hip-hop charts until it was recently dethroned by the new Nicki Minaj LP.
However, both albums are among the top five overall on iTunes and Scott's will likely have a strong Billboard debut.
The new LP is the second-biggest in terms of first week sales for 2018, per SOHH website. The album has sold over 550,000 copies over that span of time, ranking it only behind fellow hip-hop star Drake. His popular "Scorpion" album, which was recently released, has broken streaming and sales records all over the place.
'Astroworldfest' details
Travis Scott posted the official announcement on his Twitter account on Friday (August 10). A poster for the event is on display indicating that "Astroworldfest" will take place on November 17 at NRG Stadium. There's also an official website, Astroworldfest.com, where people can enter their email and phone number to get a special pre-sale code for the event.

Right now, the specifics of who will perform at the "Astroworldfestival" are unknown. Clearly, Travis Scott will be one of the main attractions on stage, but it will be interesting to see which other hip-hop stars he'll bring along. Possibly, Scott will include some of the guests on his album, along with acts like Migos, Future, and others he has collaborated with in the past.
