This weekend saw the audience treated to a combination of action and music and it seems that action has got better of music.

The audience preferred the antics of Denzel Washington as the ex-black ops operative Robert McCall in “The Equalizer.” In a strange twist, the “Equalizer 2” edged past “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” with almost $1million extra in its kitty as on Sunday afternoon.

Before the weekend it seemed that “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” will have no threat and it will reign supreme at the Box-Office. However, Sony’s “The Equalizer “opened with $35.8 million, and it was launched in 3388 locations while the Universal’s “Mamma Mia!

Here We Go Again” was screened across 3317 screens and raked in $34.4 million.

Denzel Washington’s charisma

“The Equalizer 2” has opened with $35 million and went on to generate more than $192 million worldwide, including $101 million domestically. Speaking about the head start for “The Equalizer 2” at the box-office Adrian Smith, Sony’s head of domestic distribution said that it was a very competitive market and the lead that was obtained can be attributed to Denzel Washington’s charisma.

“The Equalizer-2” was directed by Antoine Fuqua and also stars Pedro Pascal, Ashton Sanders, Melissa Leo, and Bill Pullman.

This is the fourth time that Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua have teamed together. Fuqua had earlier directed the First “Equalizer” and also “The Magnificent 7”, and “The Classic Training Day.”

The story

The “Equalizer-2” chronicles the exploits of Robert McCall, a vigilante who seeks revenge on a criminal gang who killed his wife.

The flick has performed much better than expectations, and since it is the highest opening for any Fuqua’s flick, we can hope that the franchise will be extended further in the coming times.

The flick has one more week as a top action movie before Tom Cruise will butt in with his adrenaline-packed "Mission Impossible: Fallout" next weekend.
